New + Improved Garden Watering Schedule Is Now Live

We heard that the watering instructions were a tad overwhelming — so they’ve been simplified! Check them out when you go to the Signup Genius to volunteer to water the garden. (Or scroll down 🙂 )

Watering is easy, relaxing, and kid-friendly. Sign up now : Choose as many days as you can; the schedule gives some instructions; generally, just know that it’s better to water early or later in the day (not mid-day), just because more water will soak in.

It’s a great way to help out, and an easy commitment . . . and we have some open slots this week, so if you’re around, please help!

Updated Watering Instructions:  What to do on your days?  Check the weather and — assuming it isn’t about to rain or hasn’t just rained — turn on the hose water with valve on left. Chose the SHOWER or CENTER setting on spray nozzle.

As you move around the garden, you can confirm beds and pots need more water by sticking your finger in the soil to see if it’s wet 4 to 6 inches down.  If it’s very damp, you can skip watering.  If it’s not, water deeply — you’ll want to soak the ground, not the leaves!  Plants in containers need to be watered when the soil is dry about 3 inches down.  

After you’ve tended to all the beds, containers, window boxes, turn off water. Still confused?  More detailed watering instructions are on the website!
