Plants From the Workshop – How’re They Doing?

If you aren’t seeing growth, please let us know. Sometime the seeds don’t germinate…Several gardeners (myself included) did not get flower sprouts. It happens. The good news: We have more seeds, and time to spare! Please tell us what you need by sending a message to cvearthlab@gmail.com

Thanks! Denise

See Any Little Sprouts?

17 Mar

My chocolate cherry tomatoes popped up but there’s been nothing from my zinnia.

Remember to water the sub-irrigated planter by adding water to the bottom reservoir.  You’ll want the white wick to dangle into the water.

Read more about caring for plants in sub-irrigated planters here. (Our tips from 2016.)

If you have questions, or need more seeds or soil, please reach out to cvearthlab@gmail.com.  There’s still plenty of time to get your planting(s) on track!

Here are some photos from the workshop.

All best,

Denise

Thanks For Helping Us Kick Off Spring!

7 Mar

Big thanks to those who contributed to or participated in our first garden event of 2021: Seed starting!  Even though we held it outside in the freezing cold and limited attendance for social distancing and safety, 22 people came out to kick off the new season. Check out the highlights!

Registration Is Open! Sign Up for Seed-Starting Workshop This Sunday 3/7/21

New this year: An outdoor event, “to go” supply kits

Join us to plant tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and various flower seeds this Sunday* in the children’s outdoor play area. You’ll leave the workshop with what you need to nurture the “seedlings-to-be” for 6-8 weeks, and then transplant successful seedlings into the garden in late May/early June.

Please note: we are not direct sowing seeds into raised beds yet. We’ll be outside to prepare the planters, but we’ll raise the seedlings INSIDE.

We’ve got of details to share! Thanks in advance for reviewing this notice carefully…we’ve employed several new procedures to help keep everyone safe and socially distanced. To take part, please follow this 3-step process.

  1. Make a membership decision. CVEarthlab is self-funded. Because the pandemic has prevented our usual fundraising events (but not our annual expenses), we are raising the suggested annual donation to $30.00 for family memberships. Suggested donations for individual members is $10. No green thumb required.

Not ready to commit to membership, but want to seed-start? The suggested donation is $10. per person. (Each participant will be provided with materials for two plantings, including organic soil and seeds.)

2. Pick a time slot. We’re using this online sign up form for scheduling. Participants must sign up for a 15-minute slot between 1:30 and 3pm. Thanks in advance for scheduling yourself.

3. Donate. If you are able, kindly make a donation electronically (via Venmo @misssha) or send a note to CVEarthlab@gmail.com to arrange payment or finalize your reservation before 2pm Saturday. **

Can’t commit to a specific time and place?  We will provide a “to go” supply kit for those who donate or register as a 2021 member by 2pm on Saturday.

Questions? Send a message to cvearthlab@gmail.com. Thank you!

*Rain date is Sunday March 14th at the same time

**Alternatively, you can leave a donation with the 175 Adams St doorperson (to Denise Maher’s attention) or send an email message to arrange a hand-off.
