Kale Salad Recipe
7 OctThis recipe is forgiving. It can be made using any crunchy vegetables and fruit you have on hand. –Submitted by Donna C., 230 Jay St.
Ingredients
For salad:
- 1 bunch of kale
- 1 small orange pepper
- 1/2 yellow zucchini
- 1 Bosc pear
- 1/4 red onion
For Dressing:
- 1/3 cup sesame oil
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/3 cup rice wine vinegar
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
Wash, dry, and cut the kale. Julienne (or slice thinly) the other vegetables.
Combine dressing ingredients. Toss it all together and enjoy!
Fall Harvest Sangria Recipe

Ingredients
- 1/2 organic apple, chopped
- 1/2 organic pear, chopped
- 20-30 (1/4 cup) ground cherries
- 3-4 ounces banana liquor
- 2-3 ounces rum
- Sweet red wine (4 bottles)
- Fresca diet grapefruit soda (2 liters) optional
- San Pellegrino Pomegranate & Orange Sparkling Beverage (2 oz cans) optional
Instructions
- Mix chopped fruit. Add liquor and rum.
- Soak overnight in refrigerator.
- In one large or two small pitchers, combine marinated fruit and excess liquid with red wine, soda and sparkling beverage. Use large wooden spoon to stir.
- Serve over ice.

Planting + Garden Prep Event Sunday 3pm
11 AprJoin us this Sunday, in the CVearthlab garden, inside the children’s playarea behind 195 Adams, to transplant seedlings and prep the beds for more spring plantings. All residents –with and without small children– are most welcome. We will start at 3pm and will be direct planting as well as transplanting some of the seedlings from February’s workshop.
We’re focusing on organic, non-GMO plants and pollinator-friendly materials. To that end, we aim to transplant organic, non-GMO plants into the CVEarthlab garden and to avoid use of chemical pesticides.
Will you join CVEarthlab for the new season? All CV residents are welcome to become members of the 2015 communal garden. We ask members to donate $25. and 3 bags of mulch (per household), plus contribute time and muscle watering, tending and maintaining the space over the course of the season. It’s time to conjure up Spring! Join CVEarthlab members in the community room on Sunday February 8th between 11:45am and 1:15pm to start seeds in sub-irrigated planters.
We’ll supply organic, non-GMO vegetable seeds and flower seeds plus wicking and labeling material; bring your own potting soil, a pair of scissors and a few empty 1.5-2 liter water bottles.
